     Quarterly Report: January – March, 2010

January 2010:

Health Care for the Tribals:
Gram Seva Trust arranged a general camp at Kevadi, a tribal village in Vansada District. The camp was sponsored by Kishorbhai Patel family from Lester, U.K.  A total of 505 patients were examined and 55 patients needed hospitalization.



Healing Hearts:
Dr.Ratna Magotra, Cardiac Surgeon from Mumbai checked 28 heart patients at our hospital for follow up of their medical treatment and future surgery.
In addition, Dr. Magotra & Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Snehal Kulkarni conducted 2D ECHO studies on 48 patients. This was carried on at Hiral Clinic of Radiologist Dr. Rajesh Desai. These doctors donate their very valuable services to Gram Seva on a regular basis.
  


           
Educational Field Trip for Shelter Home (Balawas) Children at Dandi Beach:
Dandi is a Historical place where Mahatma Gandhi started his Salt Satyagraha in 1930. Gandhians Rasmiben and Kantibhai Desai who are dedicated to the welfare of our children, acted  as guides and showed the Children, all the  important places and also explained their history.  
 



February 2010:


Picnic for our Anganwadi (Health & Education center for under 5 years old) Children:
Fifty 3 to 6 year old Children enjoyed this picnic at the Garden of Somnath Temple in Bilimora.
Kantibhai and Rasmiben Desai as our valued guests participated actively at this event.


Training of our newly selected Tutors:
One day training program was conducted by Mr. Nitesh Patel.
The participants were our eleven new Tutors for our children’s tuition classes.

Study of the activities of our Self Help Groups (SHG):
A team from The Institute of Developmental Studies in Jaipur, came over to Gram Seva Trust to evaluate and study the functioning of our SHGs. The team was headed by Dr. Gaganbihari Sahu.

Workshop on Tuberculosis Awareness:
 One day Workshop for school students of 2 Navsari High Schools was conducted by Subhadraben and Madhuben Patel in association with The District TB Society.

Fancy Dress and Patriotic Song Competition
Forty nine children of our Tuition Classes and our Shelter Home (Bal Awas) participated in this competition. The judges were Dr. Kanchan Dhadwe, Mrs. Bhartiben Dave, and Mrs. Riddhi Shah.

March 2010:


Sewing Classes:
In association with the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), two new sewing classes comprising of 30 students have been started; one at Navsari and another at Kharel.

Women’s International Day Celebration:
The Themes for this year were: “Women’s Health and Non-traditional Energy Sources”

(A)  Workshop on Women’s Health for RCH (Reproductive & Child Health) workers and staff of 3 PHCs (Public Health Center) was conducted by Dr.Vikasben Desai (Ex.Addinal Director, Health). Fifty women participated.
(B)  Workshop on Women’s Health and Non-traditional Energy Sources for women of our communities was attended by 540 women.
       
Exposure Visit for RCH Workers:
Forty Field Workers spent 4 days at the Bhansali Trust, Radhanpur under the guidance of Dr. Sharmishtha Patil. Apart from being a great educational experience for them, they all came back truly inspired.

One Day Workshop on Nutrition:
This workshop was facilitated by the Food and Nutrition Extension Cell of Valsad’s Women and Child Health Department.
Dr.Harsha Shah attended this Workshop as our Resource Person.

Women’s Empowerment Project:

With the cooperation of Gandevi Nagarpalika, the women empowerment project has taken a step forward to make the rural women self sufficient by starting a beauty parlor course and a sewing class at Gandevi.


Eye Camps:
Four eye camps were arranged during these three months.
 Total number of patients – 516.  Eye Glasses distributed – 200. Cataract Surgeries performed – 119
